Deborah Hoch Deb won a drawing class in a silent auction and enrolled at the Torpedo Factory in  Alexandria, VA where she studied under David Carter and Mike Francis learning drawing, graphite, calligraphy, oil, acrylic and charcoal.   They preached that Americans were losing their edge with lower intensity work to the brilliant color pallet of Italians.  They, also, felt that shadows should more often than not be bold rather than gentle.  Deb fought her instincts on both of these attitudes, and continued to study there for another three years.

Penny Overcash Penny My direction for working with the human form doesn’t necessarily concern the fundamentals of anatomy or the beauty of a particular subject.  The fascination and challenges of conveying an emotion or gesture with tension or subtle concepts with intention and more importantly, subconscious intention, are the intrinsic reasons for my working figuratively with clay. The tactile quality of clay makes my hands sing. It has given an expanded voice to my need for expression and the desire to share the results. The use of added materials such as beaded wire, steel rod to help a figure “float” and other found objects all contribute to the story that is being told. Creative exploration is possible without limitations. I find that each figure tells a different story to each viewer or collector. A connection is made. Visit Penny's site www.overcashstudios.com

I’ve experimented with other mediums but my first love is oil. I love everything about them; the smell, the feel, the movement of the paint on the canvas. It’s a very freeing feeling to create just for creation’s sake. Visit www.cherisimmonsart.com

In her other life, Dianne is a wife, mother, homemaker and choral conductor. She is music director at Nativity of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church in Charlotte and has lived here with her family for nineteen years.
Don Stadler

Don has been turning for about 2 years now.  "I became interested in wood turning  after  seeing David Kaylor do a demo at the Mooresville Artist's Guild. I  have always been intrigued by wood carvings and turnings. Shortly after watching David, I decided to give it a try. I bought a used lathe and went out to find some wood. There have been some failures along the way, but that's how I learn. Some of my other hobbies have taught me to be patient and have given me ideas that I can apply to working with wood. I have spent a lot of hours out by my shop learning the joys of this hobby."

Terri Stadler Terri moved to Mooresville from Oshkosh, WI "I needed to find something to tap my creative side. I left a fulfilling career as a hair stylist and now found time to rediscover my fine arts side that has laid dormant for too many years. I was reintroduced to art by attending Mary Setzer's "Beginning Art for Adults" class and quickly remembered my preferences of mediums, along with introduction to pastels, which I love! I would attend Wednesday open studio to get acquainted with other artists and mediums. As of late Barbara Earnshaw reintroduced me to oils and it quickly brought back my fondness for working in that medium."
Rob Steele

Rob is an abstract painter that primarily uses acrylics on canvas. He applies paints in unconventional methods rarely using a brush. He aspires to achieve pure abstract pieces that can inspire moods through wild unbound colors and original shapes. His influences include Pollack, Rothko, and Peter Max. Please visit for eye enjoyment at robsteele.net.

Roberta Tindall Roberta was drawn to pastels because of the brilliant color and flexible nature of the medium. Her works generally reflect still-life subjects with bold, close-in design and bright use of color. Compositions hope to portray common objects uniquely, capturing the image in a modified “photo-realistic” manner. Roberta is semi-retired and works as a consultant for non-profit organizations.
